Monitor For Mac Mini Late 2014
I'm banging my head against the wall trying to figure out why I sometimes cannot get any video to display with this setup. We just purchased about 40 new Mac Minis (late 2014 model with Iris integrated graphics) along with Dell P2317H monitors.
We're connecting them via HDMI using the built-in ports, no adapters involved. Of the 28 that I have deployed so far, 6 have had this issue right out of the box.
The monitor will detect that the HDMI cable has been connected, but then says no signal coming from device and goes into sleep mode. I've tried SMC and PRAM resets to no avail. A miniDP-VGA adapter and VGA cable work fine and the same monitor/cable will work when connected to my mid-2015 15' Retina MacBook Pro's HDMI cable.

I'm also able to netboot the Minis and remote into them and can see that with just the HDMI connected, System Profiler doesn't detect any displays. I feel like this has to be some sort of EDID issue, as googling indicates similar issues with Minis and certain monitors. The only potential fix I've found involves creating a display override file (), which with SIP is a huge pain.
I also don't understand why if this is the issue, it's only affecting about 25% of the systems, when they are all setup exactly the same. Is it the display, the cable or the Mac mini. That is the question. HDMI can take a moment to negotiate a mutual connection between the devices, perhaps that is taking just the briefest time too long. The Mac mini won't output a signal if it doesn't think a display has been connected, and the display won't switch on (or will quickly switch off) if it doesn't receive a signal.
To mitigate this problem, I have previously needed to set some displays to specifically expect a signal on a particular interface. I have also had better success using DisplayPort where available over HDMI. Cheap Mini DisplayPort to display port cables are available at OWC or monoprice. Otherwise even cheaper small adapters, that mate with a DisplayPort cable, if the screens shipped with that cable, could save a few dollars. Otherwise swap cables, screens around to identify the problem. Also, some HDMI cables are just rubbish, and cost is no reflection of that.
They have difficulty carrying a more than 720 signal without dropouts, which a TV might cope with or mask, but a computer display and computer combination exacerbates. EWhizz James Grubic 18/8/2016, 16:48 น.
Hi, having some experience with this Mac Mini nightmare. - Have you zapped PRAM a bajillion times? - Have you tried different HDMI cables?
- Have you tried an adaptor (DVI or otherwise) to go into the Macs MiniDisplayport? What happens? Free download paint tool sai for mac full. I'd try using this to set a resolution and then try the HDMI.
Or boot up with a known good monitor/mac setup, then plug in a different monitor. - Have you tried different monitors with different machines? And you will no doubt laugh at this, I found on some older minis that they refuse to boot to anything but a grey screen if certain el cheapo PC keyboards are plugged in. I have no rational as to why this would be the case, but needless to say it took forever to identify this. And of course it's not 100% of the time so it's 200% frustrating.:) Did that EDID fix actually work? Thanks for all of the suggestions: to prove that this is a pretty weird issue, all computers except one started working after rebooting out of DeployStudio (imaging). The one that wasn't working I connected the monitor and cable to a Mini that was working and got no video. This makes me think monitor or cable, right?
I swap the cable to another brand and it works. Go back to the original cable, still works.
