Right down to the opening music, sound effects, and applause, Jeopardy Deluxe seeks to replicate the experience of the popular, long-lived TV game show on which it's based. This game adds to the immersion by letting you build and name your own avatar, with different options for hair, complexion, clothing, etc., (although the customization is pretty limited, compared with more-complex games), and your avatar reacts appropriately, whether clapping or pumping his or her fists. The format and flow of the game, as well as the categories and questions, follow the TV show very closely--right down to the Jeopardy, Double Jeopardy, and Final Jeopardy progression--with one major exception: all questions (er, 'answers,' in Jeopardy-ian argot) are multiple choice, making the game arguably easier than actual Jeopardy. That also influences how you play against computer opponents (set to easy, medium, or hard, with likewise customizable appearance), as speedy responses are rewarded disproportionately. You can also play alone, but the game is at its best when playing with other human players on the same computer, with each person assigned his own response key.

Given that Jeopardy has already been done repeatedly for the Mac, it's disappointing to see occasional video glitches and so few innovations (why no online play option, for example?). Still Jeopardy fans will have fun with this game. J.Eng, Game could be great, but. I'm a big trivia nerd and watch Jeopardy every single day, so I thought this game would be great. It has potential, but falls short of what it could be.

For one, I wish it played more like the real game and instead of points converting into money, you simply played for money. It's hard to know what your points convert to in dollars. And it's absolutely absurd that you can win the entire game and not even break even with how much you paid to play. I understand that the more points you have, the more money you get, but there shouldn't be a situation where you win and don't cover your cost of playing, that's just dumb and clearly trying to get you to have to pay in order to keep playing. I've also only been playing for a couple of weeks now (Level 12) but am already getting a lot of repeat questions. Clearly too, you aren't playing against real people but rather the computer as it never works out that 'they' don't make it to the final Jeopardy round - they always manage to eek out some points at the end, even getting more than one double jeopardy in a round when I've always only gotten one at most.
